Baobab: Huge tree

Is This The World’s Biggest Baobab Tree?

Could this be the world's most enormous Baobab tree?

Gigantic Baobab tree in Africa (Adansonia digitata)

The Baobab is known as ‘The Tree of Life’ for its vitality and longevity. It lives in the dry savannas India and Africa. The distribution of the species throughout the dry parts of Africa is mainly due to humans.

For nine months of the year the baobab is leafless. In the wet months it stores water in its corky, thick fire-resistant trunk for the nine dry months ahead.

This gigantic tree can live for several thousand years.
It can grow up to 80 feet tall, and up to 40 feet in diameter, with compact, irregular crown, and can live for several thousand years. In spite of the enormous girth (umfang) of the trees, they are not particularly tall, and thus have a bottlelike appearance.

Supposedly, there are people who live inside of the huge trunks, and bush-babies live in the crown. That’s pretty incredible, but would of course be a 100% natural way of living!

Baobabs are aasy to grow and hence also suitable as indoor or outdoor plants, as well as bonsais.
One species of baobabs from Australia (Adansonia gibbosa ex. Adansonia gregori) is called “sour gourd.”

The scientific name is Adansonia digitata

The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago.
The next best time is now.

(From Africa)
