Helter Skelter - The Beatles - single cover

Helter Skelter – The Beatles, Paul McCartney, U2, Vow Wow And Dana Fuchs

The Beatles with their monu-mental hardrock-metal song 'Helter Skelter' - and various great interpretations.

Musicologist Alan W. Pollack said this song will “scare and unsettle” listeners. He cited Helter Skelter’s “undercurrent of violence” and “obsessive nature” and noted “Paul’s savage vocal delivery”…

The Beatles released this groundbreaking song on 22nd November 1968.

Better than ever: Paul McCartney‘s later version.

In 1967 McCartney read a Guitar Player magazine interview with The Who’s Pete Townshend where Townshend described their latest single ‘I Can See for Miles’ as the “loudest, rawest, dirtiest song The Who had ever recorded”.

This inspired him to strike back with Helter Skelter which he claimed has the most raucous vocal, the loudest drums, etc. McCartney stated he was using the symbol of a helter skelter as a ride from the top to the bottom (the rise and fall of the Roman Empire) and this was the fall, the demise.

Hot Dana Fuchs with her rocking version in 2007.

Dana Fuchs is an American singer, actress and songwriter. Fuchs is most famous for her role as ‘Sadie’ in the 2007 film Across the Universe.

Irish U2 here with their classic cover from the ‘Rattle and Hum’ album in 1988.

When I get to the bottom
I go back to the top of the slide
Where I stop and turn
and I go for a ride
Till I get to the bottom and I see you again

Do you, don’t you want me to love you
I’m coming down fast, but I’m miles above you
Tell me, tell me, come on tell me the answer
and you may be a lover but you ain’t no dancer

Well do you, don’t you want me to make you
I’m coming down fast, but don’t let me break you
Tell me, tell me, tell me your answer
You may be a lover but you ain’t no dancer

And have you ever heard of these guys… Japanese hard-rockers Vow Wow‘s cover in 1989.

Vow Wow is a hard rock band from Japan who started in 1975; they influenced many heavy metal and hard rock bands.

Is Helter Skelter the first metal song ever created? Leave your comment; Ultrafeel loves to hear from you. Cheers!
